I was very much looking forward to reading this book - and trying to recognise some of the characters in real life (managed a few too!) - but have been left disappointed in many ways. Several descriptions of places he visited are incorrect, in some cases vastly his descriptions of views are impossible at times and are sadly laughable. There are quite a few typos but more surprising are his memory of things. I'm 3/4 of the way through and still only in the first few months of him arriving in Helmsley so I guess it's going to be a rushed ending and leave out a lot of other events, experiences and history. Maybe that is why he found it difficult to boost the numbers that attended church.because they had to stand listening to him "prattling on"?! He seemed to find listening to parishioners, locals.tedious. I was appalled to read him comparing some to the walking dead!!! How rude and judgemental, especially for his role.career choice. He portrays himself as a person who finds most of his parishioners irksome, scribing them as "prattling on" and other derogatory terms. As someone who has met Mr Wilbourne on several occasions (he also christened our son) - and who actually thought he was a very nice, genuine guy - I am disappointed to say the least, in the way he speaks about the people he meets.
